In her long career as an educator, Sheila McAdams was a source of hope and inspiration for many, with a vision for a vibrant, inclusive learning community where every child feels a sense of belonging. But that feeling of belonging requires nurturing, care and a personal touch from observant teachers and staff, who notice the small inequities that can begin eroding a child’s self worth. Not having a bathing suit for beach day, noticing that your friends have new clothes but you do not, seeing your peers enroll in an after-school sport when your family doesn’t have the funds.
